Sri Lanka ETA and visa policy
Sri Lanka requires most international travelers to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to arrival. The ETA is a digital entry permit available online, typically valid for 30 days from the date of arrival and can be extended for up to six months. While visa on arrival is available for some nationalities, we highly recommend to secure the ETA in advance to streamline entry procedures.
In a bid to boost tourism, Sri Lanka launched a six-month pilot program starting October 1, 2024, offering free 30-day tourist visas to travelers from 35 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, China, India, and Russia. This initiative aims to attract more visitors during the peak travel season and support the country’s economic recovery. However this visa-free pilot program didn’t come into effect. Meaning all arrivals must have valid ETA.
